532 kilos ng 'hot meat' nahuli sa Divisoria

532 kilos of 'hot meat' seized in Divisoria

Authorities on Wednesday afternoon, July 17, seized more than 500 kilograms of "hot meat" during a surprise inspection along Elcano Street in Divisoria, Manila.
In a report to Manila City Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso, the Manila Veterinary Inspection Board (VIB) said about 532 kilograms of beef shank tagged as "hot meat" at around 2:15 pm.

The beef shank during the operation was estimated to be worth around P80,000. This is in line with the Mayor's intensified anti-botcha campaign.

"Hot meat" means carcass or parts of a carcass of food animals that were slaughtered by unaccredited meat establishments. This raises the possibility that the meat being sold may potentially be unsafe or spoiled.

"Basta hindi ininspeksyon ng accredited slaughterhouse, hindi ito safe," Domagoso said as he warned the public to be vigilant when shopping for meat.

"Pagkain ito. We cannot just send these to our markets. Kinakain ito ng tao, kaligtasan ang nakataya dito," he lamented. "May gobyerno na ang Maynila. Hindi na kami titigil (sa kampanya)."

The operation was conducted by the Manila VIB following a tip sent by a concerned citizen via social media regaring "hot meat" being sold in the streets.

"Ayan, mga inirereport sa amin ng mga netizens, nagbubunga ng maganda. Maraming salamat po dahil tumutulong kayo sa pagsasaayos ng Lungsod ng Maynila," Domagoso said.
