Robredo will be investigated over ‘Bikoy’ videos, says DOJ

Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra said Vice President Leni Robredo will not be exempted from preliminary investigation over the criminal complaint filed against those involved in the “Ang Totoong Narcolist” videos.

“Without meaning to pre-empt the investigating panel, the VP’s removability from office only by impeachment has no bearing on the issue of possible criminal liability,” he explained.

Meanwhile, Guevarra has already created a panel of prosecutors who will conduct the preliminary investigation of the complaint filed by the Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG).

In its complaint, the PNP-CIDG accused 35 respondents of sedition, inciting to sedition, cyber libel, libel, estafa, harboring a criminal, and obstruction of justice.

Aside from Robredo, the complaint included as respondents former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV; incumbent Senators Ana Theresia “Risa” Hontiveros and Leila De Lima; and the Liberal Party’s Otso Diretso senatorial candidates Chel Diokno, Gary Alejano, Florin Hilbay, Romulo Macalintal, Bam Aquino, Lorenzo Tanada, and Samira Gutoc.

The other respondents also included Catholic Church officials and the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP).
