A fast food manager in the Philippines shared a story about how she was humiliated by a customer for not providing a plastic straw in compliance with their “strawless” policy.

Imee Joy Urgelles, manager of a certain Jollibee branch, posted on her Facebook account photos of her uniform which was splashed with soda by a customer.
“Sa customer na nagbuhos sakin ng softdrinks dahil sa “straw less” kami ingat po kayo Mam. Thank you dahil sa inyo napatunayan ko na effective manager ako hindi ko man nabigay ang straw na kailangan mo at least naexplain ko ng maayos kung bakit wala kaming straw. Sa muling pagkikita and God bless you po,” Urgelles wrote.
To the customer who threw the softdrinks to my uniform earlier because of our “strawless” policy, Please take care. Thanks a lot because I was able to prove that I’m an effective manager and I was able to explain why we no longer offer plastic straws. Till next and may God Bless you, she wrote.

“Sa lahat ng fastfood customer na nakakaintindi at nakakaunawa ng “STRAW LESS” kudos sa inyo. PS. Nanay ko pa naman nag plantsa ng uniform ko. Tuloy ang duty hehe,” she added.

Friends of the manager commented on the post supporting their friend from the attacker.
“Nag jollibee lang akala mo nabili na lahat ng crew and manager. Gigil ako imee,” a Facebook user commented.
“Dapat di ka pumayag. Magkano lang binayad nila sa kinain nila pra bastusin ka,” another user commented, while another acknowledged her for her patience saying “Congrats to your patience. Kung ako yan, nasampal ko na yan ng monitor. Hahaha.”

Another customer who witnessed the incident also shared what she saw:

Nakita ko kahapon Yun Na kinakausap si mam . 😞 Napaka babaw ng kinagagalit Nya. Nakakabwiset. Straw lang galit na galit eh ! Sguro kung ibang bagay pa yan. Nakapatay na yung babaeng Yun.
I saw the customer when she was talking with the manager. She was too shallow to act like that. 
Environment advocate strawlessocean.org believed plastic straws are really bad for the ocean.
In its website, the organization said that America alone used over 500 million plastics every day and most of those end up in our oceans, polluting the water and killing marine life.
“We want to encourage people to stop using plastic straws for good. If we don’t act now, by the year 2050 there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish,” the organization said.

Why plastic straws are being banned?

Recently, Starbucks announced that they are eliminating the use of plastic straws from all of its stores by 2020.

The company said that the changes will help Starbucks eliminate more than 1 billion plastic straws per year as plastic straws contribute to ocean pollution and pose a danger to marine life.
