5.3-magnitude aftershock rattles Davao del Sur anew

A 5.3-magnitude aftershock struck Davao del Sur early Wednesday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

The moderate tremor was an aftershock of the 6.9-magnitude earthquake that rattled Mindanao on Dec. 15, the agency added.

The aftershock occurred at a depth of 9 kilometers southeast of Padada town at 4:18 a.m.

Intensity 5, which can cause "strong" shaking, was reported in Digos City while General Santos City experienced intensity 4 or "moderately strong" shaking.

The Phivolcs said the aftershock may not cause damage.

State seismologists have recorded at least 700 aftershocks of which 295 were plotted while 70 were felt.
